Ribvort
(Plantano lanceolata)
Ribwort leaves contain 2–6.5% of mucous substances of a polysaccharide character, tannins, iridoide glycosides (especially aucubin and catalpol), silicic, phenolic acids, flavonoids and a significant amount of zinc. Ribwort extract has slightly expectorant, mucilaginosum effects. Anti-viral and bacteriostatic effects were recently proven in the extracts in water soluble substances,  especially aucubin, trans-4-hydroxy, 3-metoxy-cinnamic acids and p-coumaric acids, which stimulate the activity of the lymphocytes and increase the amount of gamma–interferon.
Together with the proactive effect of the mucus, which alleviates the irritation to cough, it acts effectively by means of reflex zones, especially during dry inflammations of the upper respiratory tract associated with an unproductive cough.
